Yamil Snodgrass

Residential Case Management Intern

Meet Yamil, our residential case management intern at The Crossing. After serving meals at Denver Rescue Mission in high school and making a wrong turn to discover the Jesus Saves sign at our Lawrence Street Shelter, she decided to pursue internship opportunities here.

Yamil helps with intake for our Bridge program, which provides individuals and families with support and resources as they navigate the process of becoming housed. She also shadows our Case Management supervisors and participates in meetings with case managers and participants. Throughout this experience, she hopes to continue to strengthen her relationship with the Lord and gain discernment on whether or not to pursue social work in the future.

“Homelessness can come for any of us. You could be living a rich life one minute and be struggling to get by the next. I have been reminded not to judge others because we all come from different walks of life.”

Corey Priebe

Counseling Intern

Meet Corey, one of our counseling interns at The Crossing. As someone pursing an M.A. in counseling at the Seattle School of Theology and Psychology, Corey is excited to apply the skills that he has acquired through his education. The Mission provides him with the opportunity to meet with participants–both individually and in group settings–to assess their emotional, spiritual and mental state, as well as execute treatment plans.

The homeless population piqued his interest because he desires to see beyond what is perceived about the increasingly visible issue of homelessness, into the hearts of the people experiencing it.

“There a lot of scary things in engaging with a population that we are unfamiliar with, but when we get to know someone’s story–more times than not–our compassion grows. Hearing their stories is like hearing the heartbeat of our culture. We are called to respond with kindness, which requires courage.”

Frank Catalfano

Education & Life Skills Intern

Meet Frank, our education and life skills intern at The Crossing. Frank works in the career readiness department, where he helps prepare participants to get a job. He teaches them how to write a resume and cover letter, prepare for interviews, and present themselves according to what hiring professionals look for as they fill positions.

As someone who has experienced homelessness himself, Frank desires to give back through participating in ministry and sharing the hope of Christ. He aims to strengthen his relationship with the Lord and take away the wonder, beauty and blessing of teaching.

“I’ve been homeless myself…and have been humbled by how much I didn’t know. People are unique and respond to similar situations in a variety of ways.”

Isabella Canfield

Communication & Events Intern

Meet Isabella, our communication and events intern at the Admin building. As a strategic communication major, Isabella is excited to apply her knowledge and gain insight into the marketing and public relations sectors of the non-profit world. She contributes to the Mission by creating social media content and videos, capturing photos and b-roll, writing blogposts, and helping execute events for guests and donors.

Isabella was originally interested in the Mission because it meets people where they are at, providing for their needs and offering hope in the name of Jesus. As she continues her internship, she strives to continue to grow in confidence and faith.

“Everyone we meet has a story, desires to be understood, and yearns to be loved. The challenge is whether or not we take the time to listen, engage with intention and follow Christ’s example.”

Dirk Boyle

Counseling Intern

Meet Dirk, another one of our counseling interns at The Crossing. As a studying therapist, Dirk desires to increase his knowledge and skills by learning from the staff and interacting with participants. Through this internship, he has been able to advocate for those experiencing homelessness and struggling with addiction and help give them the needed skills to provide lasting opportunities and positive change in their lives.

He has been reminded of the impact of kindness and encourages others to contribute to the Mission in any way that they can.

“This experience has provided me with an expanded perspective of the issues that those who are experiencing homelessness face, and often, the traumatic events that have brought them here. You can learn something from everyone.”

Allie Barron

After Care Intern (Harvest Farm)

Meet Allie, our after care intern at Harvest Farm, who supports the participants nearing graduation of the New Life Program. She oversees their progress, ensures that they fulfill the necessary criteria to graduate and maintains contact with prior graduates to provide continued guidance and support as they transition out of the program.

As someone pursuing an M.A. in public policy, Allie was intrigued by the opportunity to understand how public policy impacts social services at a hands-on level and affects the work that we do with participants. Through her experience at the Farm, she has learned how much resilience people experiencing homelessness have and that sometimes the most meaningful support we can offer is simply being present with people in their struggles, showing them kindness and seeing their humanity.

“In this type of work, every day is different, and you never quite know what to expect. God is teaching me that I don’t need all the answers to make a difference, but that by extending empathy and understanding, I can play a small role in bringing hope to those who need it most.”

Stephen Scholten

Intake Case Management Intern (Harvest Farm)

Meet Stephen, our intake case management intern at Harvest Farm, who communicates with guests that are wanting to utilize our services. Whether through assisting with check-ins, entering data or interacting with our participants, Stephen strives to increase in knowledge and skills to better serve those around him.

Already, he has witnessed the impact of small acts of kindness and intentionality, recognizing the importance of building community and trust outside of conversations about hardship and trauma.

“The little pieces do matter. They can mean a lot, helping build stronger relationships with the staff and making participants feel like they belong.”
