That job was the one constant, dependable part of our lives. But I couldn’t make my early shift and get the kids to school on time. I lost our only source of income.
My name is Adrian. I’m a mother of five children. Sometimes when I look back on my family’s journey, I cannot believe how far we’ve come. Of course, it was only possible thanks to God’s love and your generosity.
I remember exactly where I was in 2019, when I found out my husband had to go to prison. I was pregnant, living with the kids in a hotel room, and working long hours at a doughnut shop. That job was the one constant, dependable port of our lives. But I couldn’t make my early shift and get the kids to school on time.
I lost our only source of income.
Desperate and without anywhere else to turn, we arrived at Denver Rescue Mission. I felt a little better right away, knowing my kids would hove food in their bellies and a roof over their heads. We stayed for 10 months. At last, by the grace of God, I secured an apartment for my family. I dreamt of independence and embraced the future that lay ahead. Then the pandemic hit.
Being cooped up with the kids for months at a time wore on us all. The challenges of online schooling, combined with the fear of getting sick without a safety net, brought us to a breaking point. That’s when we returned to the Mission and the Lord intervened in two crucial ways. First, He brought my mother to Colorado from Alabama. Just having her help with the kids meant the world. Second, we found out about the Broncos Room—a youth venue for recreation, tutoring, Bible studies and interacting with other kids living here at The Crossing.
It’s been a game-changer and a life-saver. In their short time going to the Broncos Room, I’ve seen my kids grow and mature academically, socially and emotionally. Just as important, I’ve seized the opportunity to focus on improving myself and my children’s situation.
I owe this sense of joy and optimism to Denver Rescue Mission donors like you.
This holiday season will be different from the tumultuous times my family has experienced in the recent past. We secured a new apartment in October, and my kids can barely contain their excitement. I’m working on my GED and improving my credit score in hopes of upgrading to a house next year. Our family is growing closer to God by the day. I owe this sense of joy and optimism to Denver Rescue Mission donors like you. My family will never forget your kindness. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart!
