| Long-Term Opportunities
We could not do all we do without volunteer assistance. Following are some long-term volunteer partner positions that we are often looking to fill:
Adult Education Center Volunteers
- Computer skills trainings offered for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Basic Computer skills trainings.
- Times offered: Monday – Friday 9am-9pm and Saturdays 9am - 5pm.
- Commitment: Once a week for min 3 months.
Clothing Room Assistants
- Help sort and distribute donations to individuals and families in the community as you volunteer in one of our two clothing rooms.
- Times Offered: Monday – Friday 9-5pm
- Commitment: Anywhere from once a week to once a month for at least 3 months.
Child Care
- Help care for babies and toddlers at Champa House while their mom’s work and go to school.
- Times offered: daytime and evening shifts available depending on need.
- Commitment: anywhere from once a week to once a month for at least 6 months.
Adult Mentors
- Support a man or woman in the New Life Program through a mentoring relationship as they take steps toward rehabilitation and self-sufficiency.
- Times offered: flexible.
- Commitment: meet min. 3x a month for at least 6 months.
Tutor an Adult
- The residents in our New Life Program both at The Crossing and Champa House are always in need of tutors to help in our Learning and Education Center as they earn their GED, or take college level courses.
- Times offered: Monday – Friday 9-5pm.
- Commitment: once a week for at least 3 months.
“Save our Youth” Mentor
- Develop a supportive mentor relationship with youth (ages 10 –18).
- Times offered: flexible
- Commitment: initial 3 hour training, then a couple hours with the youth 1x a week for at least 6 months.
Greenhouse Assistant
Harvest Farm:
- Assist in the general upkeep of our new greenhouse, from setting it up, to maintaining the facility and caring for the plants. We are looking for long-term volunteers willing to utilize their experience and expertise in the greenhouse to work alongside our New Life Program residents, mentoring and teaching them new skills. We are willing to schedule around working hours, Saturdays and evenings. Minimum commitment of once a month for 6 months.
Arboriculturist
Harvest Farm:
- Working with the vast number of trees across our 100-acre farm. This could include watering, mulching, transplanting and weeding a variety of tree types (deciduous and coniferous) in different stages of growth (from saplings all the way up to full grown and decrepit trees). We are looking for long-term volunteers willing to utilize their experience and expertise with trees to work alongside our New Life Program residents, mentoring and teaching them new skills. We are willing to schedule around working hours, Saturdays and evenings. Minimum commitment of once a month for 6 months.

Short-Term Opportunities
We serve five meals a day, seven days a week at two facilities and have several volunteer shifts that assist in serving meals.
Serve a Meal – Kitchen Volunteers
At our downtown Lawrence Street Shelter, located at 1130 Park Ave. West, we have four serving shifts available: 5:30 a.m. – 6:45 a.m., 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., and 7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. All volunteers for the breakfast shift must be at least 18 years old. For the 10:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. shifts, the minimum age is 13 with adult supervision. For the 4:30 p.m. shift, which is a shift used primarily to prepare for the later meal, the minimum age is 10 with adult supervision.
Our new facility, located at 6090 Smith Road is called The Crossing and provides housing for the men going through our long-term rehabilitation program as well as transitional housing for families. We have three serving shifts available at The Crossing: 5:45 am -- 7:30 am; 11:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.; and 5:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. For all shifts the minimum age for volunteers is 10 with adult supervision.
