Frequently Asked Questions

Volunteer Frequently Asked Questions

(Volunteer Opportunities page)

What are the different times available to work in the kitchen downtown and how many volunteers do you need for each shift?

10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. – 10 volunteers

4:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. – 8 volunteers

7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. – 10 volunteers

This is 7 days a week.

If I want to help serve a meal, do I need to schedule a time or do I just show up?

We ask that you give us a call. We like to try and only have a certain amount of volunteers on each shift. If we end up with too many, it is not a very good experience. You can call the volunteer department at 303.953.3955.

Do you have to be a certain age to work in the kitchen downtown?

We ask for a minimum age of 10, with adult supervision, for the 4:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. shift. For the morning (10:30 – 1:30) and evening (7:30 – 9:00) shift we ask for a minimum age of 13, with adult supervision.

How do I sign up for the events at Thanksgiving and Christmas?

We start sign up for Thanksgiving on the first business day of October, and sign up for Christmas on the first business day in November. Spots fill very quickly, so we like to suggest that you call as soon as possible. We start taking calls at 8:30 a.m.

If I have scheduled to volunteer and something comes up, what should I do?

Please give us a call as soon as possible. Because we do schedule our volunteers, the folks at the Mission are relying on them being there. If you can’t be there we would like the opportunity to get someone else to take your place.
