Overview:
The Public Relations/Marketing internship is for college-age men or women
desiring exposure to or seeking a career in the non-profit sector.
Participants will develop skills by assisting in public relations,
marketing, and special events in a non-profit environment at the Denver
Rescue Mission’s Ministry Outreach Center administrative offices.
Program Description:
The intern will assist several staff members; in planning and executing special events; and in
the practice of media relations and networking. Additionally, the intern
will become acquainted with current public relations terminology and
practices, and apply skills in computer applications including desktop
publishing. Hours worked per week and duration of assignment are negotiable.
Activities/Assignments:
•
Interview and photograph individuals, and write about their experience,
for PR materials
•
Assist in planning, coordinating, and implementing special events
•
Facilitate publicity for special events
•
Stay abreast of issues relating to homelessness, poverty, and rehabilitation
in the broadcast media
•
Learn names, styles, and needs of media editorial personnel, and maintain
updated lists of contacts
•
Write news releases, media advisories, pitch letters, public service
announcements, advertisements and brochures
•
Develop office skills
•
Research, as needed
•
Develop skills in desktop publishing, PR web services and general computer applications
For all interns:
- Some meals available when on site
- Computer/internet access if applicable to specific placement
For Full-time Interns only:
- Room and board provided
- Computer and Internet access
- $150 monthly stipend
- $250 monthly tuition reimbursement
