Medical Office Administration

Overview:
The Medical Office Administration internship is for men and women who have completed at least two years of college, or are 21 years or older, have a desire to pursue a medical career, and have a heart to work with patients and Mission residents at the Denver Rescue Mission Lawrence Street clinic. Interns will assist volunteer professional medical, dental, optical and chiropractic personnel with residents and clients, while ministering to patients’ emotional and spiritual needs.

Program Description:
The intern will assist Denver Rescue Mission Lawrence Street clinic clientele to obtain medical treatment within the clinic and other local medical facilities, coordinate schedules between the five disciplines in the clinic, and will teach and administer basic health care for clinic clientele, under the supervision of the Clinic Coordinator. Hours worked per week and duration of assignment are negotiable.

Activities/Assignments:
• Interview clientele to assess medical needs
• Schedule appointments for clients in Mission clinic
• Refer clients to other agencies for medical treatment not provided at the Mission clinic
• Develop a Medical Resource Guide for Denver clientele
• Assist in recruiting professional medical personnel, coordinating/filling clinic appointments
• Teach self-care skills to clinic clientele
• Develop self-care curriculum including information on stretching, nutrition, smoking habits, etc.

For Full-time Interns only:

  • Room and board provided
  • Computer and Internet access
  • $150 monthly stipend
  • $250 monthly tuition reimbursement
