Human Services

Overview:
The Human Services internship is for college-age men or women seeking a career or ministry in this diverse field. Serving in one of our community outreach, residential rehabilitation, or family rescue ministry programs, interns will help poor urban individuals and/or families improve their quality of life by providing practical, recovery, and rehabilitation assistance in the Mission’s spiritually-based setting.

Program Description:
Through observation and participation, interns develop skills in non-profit program administration, low-level addictions recovery assistance, and in networking with similar service providers. Interns serve at our Lawrence Street Mission, The Crossing, Champa House, or Client Services. Hours worked per week and duration of assignment are negotiable, depending on total program hours needed. (Please consult your sending agency’s internship requirements.)

Activities/Assignments:
• Provide services and apply skills/gifts to meet client needs
• Participate in Educational and Life Skills training programs
• Work in clothing room and pantry
• Provide spiritual items to share with clients
• Document contacts with clientele
• Attend service providers’ meetings
• Visit and observe operations of cooperating service agencies (including homeless education and legislation committee, Justice Ministries, Adopt-A-Family, or others)
• Compile monthly reports
• Assist in administrative duties

For all interns:

  • Some meals available when on site
  • Computer/internet access if applicable to specific placement

For Full-time Interns only:

  • Room and board provided
  • Computer and Internet access
  • $150 monthly stipend
  • $250 monthly tuition reimbursement
