Overview:
The Child Development internship is for college-age women seeking multicultural,
inner-city experience working with children. Participants will assist
the Champa House staff and residents in providing quality care and
enrichment for children in a setting of Christian values.
Program Description:
Interns will assist in all classroom activities including instructional
preparation for children up to 12 years of age. Through nurturing, teaching,
and partnering with parents, interns will assist a child’s growth
physically, socially, academically and spiritually. Hours worked per
week and duration of assignment are negotiable, depending on total program
hours needed. (Please consult your sending agency’s internship
requirements.)
Activities/Assignments:

Supervise and assist children during all activities
- Counsel children when social, academic or adjustment problems arise
- Participate in staff meetings, facility events, and parent gatherings
- Develop, plan and prepare classroom activity materials
- Create a curriculum incorporating motor skill, social skill, and speech
development activities
- Assist with daily logging, student incident reports, attendance records
and head count
- Observe and document behavior and development needs of the children
- Ensure classroom safety, cleanliness, and appearance
- Assist in planning and implementing facility-wide events
Other responsibilities that the interns have:
- Facilitating lessons in the childcare that they have planned and prepared
- Help in giving directions to volunteers who come to spend time with the children
- Help in planning lessons that will provide spiritual growth for our children
- Answering phones and the door
Required Reading:
- Miscellaneous staff training materials, including staff handbook
For all interns:
- Some meals available when on site
- Computer/internet access if applicable to specific placement
For Full-time Interns only:
- Room and board provided
- Computer and Internet access
- $150 monthly stipend
- $250 monthly tuition reimbursement
