Overview:
The Chaplaincy Certification Program is a 9-month residency internship
preparing men and women for inner-city chaplaincy ministry. At minimum,
candidates must have completed 2 years of post-secondary education
and/or be 21 years of age with a pastoral call. The DRM-trained, Rescue
Mission Chaplaincy graduate may qualify for a variety of positions
in rescue ministry, including chaplain, caseworker and director or
assistant director of select ministries under the umbrella of a suitable
mission.
Program Description:
The chaplain is the main agent of the mission’s spiritual perspective
and must be best attuned to the needs of mission clientele. Therefore,
the intern should expect to practice chaplaincy skills (including spiritual
assessment, listening, ministry of the word, ministry of presence, and
prayer) in the service of all mission visitors. Participants will spend
16 hrs/week completing academic work for evaluation and grading while
serving practical components of the program. Male chaplains will serve
their “hands-on” assignments at the Lawrence Street and Harvest
